Beyond abstinence. A science-based path to actually being free.

Drinking. Drugs. Sex. Food. Work. If standard rehab hasn't held — for you or someone you love — it's not because you failed it. The model failed you. Dr. Adi Jaffe, author of Unhooked and The Abstinence Myth, built a method that addresses the why, not just the what. One client came to him after 50 failed rehabs. It worked.

Why the standard model fails

It was never about willpower.

The traditional rehab model — built decades ago, before modern neuroscience — gets one thing very wrong. It treats the what (the substance, the behavior) and ignores the why (the loop driving it). That's why it fails so often.

You quit. The pattern didn't.

You stopped the substance. The internal state that drove you to it is still running. It finds a new outlet. Usually within months.

Shame as a treatment plan

Most programs are still built on the idea that you're broken, diseased, or morally deficient. None of those is a useful starting point — and the science doesn't back any of them.

"Forever" as the only metric

One slip equals failure. Abstinence-or-nothing teaches the brain that any reach for relief is a catastrophic event. That's a recipe for spiraling, not freedom.

Generic protocol, individual life

The driver of one person's drinking is not the driver of another's. Treating both with the same 12-step structure ignores the entire field of behavioral science.

No tools for the daily moment

Group meetings are useful. But they're not a tool you can use Tuesday at 6:43pm when the loop fires. You need something that works in real time.

Identity locked to the addiction

"I'm an addict, I'll always be an addict." For some people that's grounding. For many it's a cage — one the program built and asked them to stay in.

The unhooked method

Address the why. The what takes care of itself.

The Unhooked Method is the system Adi developed over two decades — at UCLA, in clinical practice, and across thousands of clients. It's the spine of the program, and the foundation of both his #1 best-selling books.

UN
HOOKED

The science. The story. The system.

Unhooked (Hachette, 2024) and The Abstinence Myth (2018, Amazon #1) lay out the framework: addiction is a behavioral loop driven by an unmet internal need. You don't break the loop by fighting the substance. You break it by identifying the loop, interrupting it in real time, and installing a pattern that meets the underlying need differently.

That's it. That's the whole game. Everything else — the protocols, the program structure, the daily tools — is in service of those three steps.

Two paths to the same freedom

Pick the one that fits your life.

The Decade in 90 Days program runs in two formats — both grounded in the same SPARO and EAT frameworks, both built around the Unhooked Method.

Path 1 — Private

1-on-1 with Dr. Jaffe

The same intensive 90-day engagement Adi runs with CEOs, founders, and public figures. Discreet, customized, and built around your life — wherever it's lived.

  • Direct, 1-on-1 work with Adi himself
  • Customized 90-day intensive protocol
  • On-call access between sessions
  • Location flexibility — your home, office, or retreat
  • Total privacy, NDA-protected
  • Family integration when needed
Investment: by application

Path 2 — Group

Decade in 90 Days Group Program

The full Unhooked Method delivered in a small-group format — direct teaching from Adi, a cohort of people doing the same work, and a structured 90-day arc that gets results.

  • Direct teaching and live sessions with Adi
  • Small-group cohort for accountability
  • Full SPARO and EAT curriculum
  • Structured 90-day program with daily tools
  • Community of peers doing the work
  • Significantly more accessible investment

How the work runs

The 90-day arc — same architecture, both paths.

01 — SEE

SPARO mapping

We identify the specific behavioral loop driving the addictive pattern. Not "you drink because you're an alcoholic." The actual loop — what triggers it, what need it's trying to meet, and why it persists.

02 — INTERRUPT

The EAT cycle

You learn — and practice — the EAT cycle of transformation. It's a real-time tool, not a coping skill. Used in the moment the loop fires, it gives you a different option than the old pattern.

03 — REBUILD

The pattern that holds

Ninety days of installing a new way of meeting the underlying need. By the end, the old loop isn't being suppressed — it's been replaced. That's the difference between sobriety and freedom.

Thank you for the most amazing experience that has changed my life forever. Everything you are doing is so amazing! Thank you for publicly sharing your story of your personal struggles — it provided me not only with hope but the confidence that I could change my behavior.

What clinicians say

Endorsed by the people who treat addiction for a living.

After reading Dr. Jaffe's book — his explanations, his sample stories, and most importantly the breakdown of his 9-step program — I believe his logical, well-thought-out and researched approach is the right one. It forces those who need it to address the why instead of the what of your addiction.

Common questions

What individuals and families ask.

I've been to rehab multiple times. Why would this be different?
A meaningful portion of Adi's clients arrived after multiple — sometimes dozens of — failed rehabs. One had been through 50. The difference isn't intensity or environment. It's the underlying model. Traditional rehab treats the substance. The Unhooked Method treats the behavioral loop driving the substance. When the loop is interrupted and replaced, the substance becomes a non-issue.
Is this abstinence-based?
No — and yes. The Unhooked Method is not built on the rigid "one drink and you've failed" abstinence model. It's built on identifying and replacing the loop. For many clients, the natural outcome is full abstinence — but it arrives as a side effect of being genuinely free, not as the enforced rule of the program. Adi's first book, The Abstinence Myth, lays out the science behind this distinction.
My family member is struggling. Can I apply on their behalf?
Yes. A significant share of inquiries come from spouses, parents, and adult children. Apply with your own contact information — the discovery call will help you understand whether the program is right for your family member and how to bring it to them. Adi has worked with families through every variation of this.
Is the group program "less serious" than the 1-on-1?
No. The group program delivers the full SPARO + EAT curriculum and the complete Unhooked Method. What changes is the format: a small cohort, structured group sessions with Adi directly, and the accountability of doing the work alongside peers. Many clients prefer it for exactly that reason — the cohort effect is powerful.
What if I'm not sure I'm ready?
Apply anyway. The discovery call costs nothing and tells you a lot. Often readiness is a loop of its own — and the conversation itself is the first interruption.
